Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Episode 20

Father Standing Before a Grave

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood 20

After the action packed previous episode, I wasn’t expecting this one to be much exciting. But, it was really good. Hohenheim finally comes back and confronts Ed on all he has done. He seems cold and distant. He warns Pinako about a tragedy happening in this country and advises her to leave. Of course, she doesn’t.

Ed goes to his "mother’s" grave to confirm what he and his brother Al transmuted. This scene was awesome, really dark and moody. The directing was also noticeably better and more detailed . With this, Ed confirms they didn’t transmute anything similar to their mother. By discussing it with Al, they realize Al’s soul was affixed to it. That means that at least they didn’t bring anyone’s soul back and nobody got hurt, besides them.

Ed calls Izumi to ask about her transmuted son. She too realizes she didn’t transmute her soon and thanks Ed for the reliefe he has brought. Now, everyone can move on. Basically, they found that a dead soul can not be brought back, no matter what and that if a soul exists, a body exist with it and seek each other. If Al is alive, then, his body still exists too and they should be able to bring him back. Just like Al saw his own body being taken away. Well, something like that.

Ed and Al then have a really meaningful talk and are now 100% determined to get their bodies back without the burden of having killed their mother.

The next episode will be about the "casualties" from the previous episode and the second go at the homunculi. This time they are better prepared, with Ling and Ran-Fan on their side. Can’t wait.
